Making Big Choices Regarding Funerals

Cremation Services And What To Expect

by Andrea Rhodes

When you have to plan cremation services but have never gone through this process before, you might not know what to expect. To help with this, you will want to take a little time and review the following information. The more you know, the easier the planning stage will be.

The Cost Will Be More Affordable

The fact that the cost of cremation services is much more affordable can be a relief to a lot of families that may be financially strapped. Sometimes, the deceased does not have a life insurance policy in place and their family has to pay out of pocket. Then again, there may be a life insurance policy, but it can take a while for the insurance company to pay out and that money might have to go to cover other debts like the mortgage or vehicle loan.

You Can Still Have A Viewing Of The Deceased

It is important to know that you do not have to select a burial in order to have a viewing of your loved one. You can still opt to have a public or private viewing of the dearly departed, and the cremation will take place after that. Then again, if that is not what is desired, a viewing can be skipped and the cremation process can take place sooner.

You Won't Get The Ashes Right Away

Some people expect to receive the ashes of their loved one at least by the day after the services come to a close. The thing is, though, it might take a few days to cremate your loved one, depending on the funeral home's schedule. Once the cremation process has been completed, someone from there will contact you about arranging a day and time to pick up the remains. They will generally place the cremated remains in a bag that is then placed in a box. The box can be opened whenever you are ready to move the ashes from the box to an urn that you bought. Of course, moving the ashes to an urn is not a requirement. You can leave the remains in the box provided by the funeral home or spread the ashes over a field, into a stream of water, or into the air while standing at the top of a mountain.
